Overview HackView Finance is a Chrome extension that explains financial terms highlighted by the user. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights as a user.
Data We Collect HackView Finance does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. The only data sent to our servers is the financial term you highlight — a single word or short phrase. No personal identifiers, browsing history, or user information is ever transmitted.
How Your Data Is Used The highlighted term is sent to our secure backend server solely to generate a plain-language explanation and practice question. The term is temporarily cached to improve response speed. No user profiles are created. No data is sold or shared with third parties.
Data Storage User preferences — selected language, dark mode, and enabled state — are stored locally on your device using Chrome’s built-in storage API. This data never leaves your device.
Third Party Services HackView Finance uses the OpenAI API to generate explanations. Only the highlighted term is sent to OpenAI. No personal data is shared. OpenAI’s privacy policy can be found at openai.com/privacy.
Permissions The extension requests only the minimum permissions necessary to function. No permission is used to collect personal data or track user behavior.
Children’s Privacy HackView Finance does not knowingly collect any data from children under the age of 13.
Changes to This Policy We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted at this URL with an updated date.
